Family2Family Mentoring and Development Program

Family2Family Program

The Family2Family Program, developed and facilitated by Frazier Support Services, is a comprehensive family development curriculum designed to strengthen parenting practices, promote family resilience, and support long-term family stability. Rooted in evidence-based approaches and the principles of family-centered practice, Family2Family focuses on enhancing the strengths that already exist within each family while addressing barriers that may impact the family’s ability to thrive.

This 12-week curriculum empowers families to deepen their understanding of child and youth development, effective communication, healthy relationships, and family structure. The program also includes AODA (Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse) support and recovery coaching, helping families address substance use challenges within a framework of accountability, empathy, and community connection.

Program Design and Approach

Family2Family is built on the belief that families learn best from other families. Each participating at-risk family is paired with a trained mentoring family who shares similar family compositions, ages of children, cultural backgrounds, and lived experiences. This mirrored mentoring approach allows families to learn through shared experiences, modeling, and mutual encouragement.

Mentoring families serve as positive role models, demonstrating effective parenting strategies, conflict resolution techniques, and family traditions that foster strong bonds and emotional stability. Throughout the program, participants engage in guided family discussions, structured activities, and experiential learning sessions facilitated by trained staff and community partners.

Core Program Components Include:

  • Parenting Strengths and Skill Building: Practical sessions that explore communication, discipline, boundaries, and emotional connection.
  • Family Resilience and Support Systems: Tools and techniques to help families manage stress, adapt to change, and recover from adversity.
  • Family Structure and Stability: Guidance on routines, role responsibilities, and collaborative decision-making to strengthen family functioning.
  • Intergenerational Learning: Emphasis on connecting generations within the family to foster identity, legacy, and long-term growth.
  • Cultural Competence and Inclusion: Recognition and respect for the cultural values, traditions, and histories that shape each family’s journey.
  • Community and Resource Connection: Assistance linking families to ongoing supports, including counseling, employment services, childcare, and educational opportunities.

Program Implementation and Outcomes

Families meet weekly for 12 consecutive weeks, participating in joint sessions that combine education, group dialogue, and family-centered activities. Sessions are designed to be interactive, reflective, and strength-based—helping families recognize their progress and celebrate success.

Upon completion, families often report improved communication, stronger emotional bonds, increased confidence in parenting, and greater awareness of community support. Many mentoring families choose to remain involved as peer mentors, expanding the program’s circle of support and impact across the community.
