Seeds of Generations Mentoring Program

The Seeds of Generations Mentoring Program is a structured, trauma-informed mentoring initiative designed to cultivate growth, resilience, and leadership among boys involved in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. This program operates under the philosophy that every young person carries the potential for greatness when nurtured within a consistent, caring, and accountable environment.
The program provides a comprehensive support system that integrates AODA (Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse) education and intervention, academic assistance, employment readiness training, and life-skills development. Through these services, youth are guided to make positive decisions, develop healthy coping strategies, and gain the skills necessary to transition into responsible and successful adulthood.
Each youth is intentionally paired with a community-based mentor—a positive male role model who shares similar cultural, social, and demographic backgrounds. These mentors serve as trust guides, offering encouragement, accountability, and real-life perspective. The mentor-mentee relationship is the cornerstone of the program, fostering long-term personal growth and emotional stability through consistent connection and guidance.
Program Components Include:
- Individualized Mentoring: Mentors meet with mentees weekly or bi-weekly to set personal goals, discuss challenges, and celebrate progress. Sessions may include academic check-ins, life coaching, or recreational bonding activities.
- Group Mentoring Sessions: Regularly scheduled small-group meetings promote peer learning, collaboration, and team building through structured discussions, games, and educational workshops.
- Character and Leadership Development: Youth participate in workshops centered on leadership, accountability, integrity, and emotional intelligence—skills essential to thriving in school, work, and relationships.
- AODA Support and Wellness Education: Mentors and facilitators collaborate with behavioral health providers to reinforce substance-use prevention and recovery principles, helping participants understand triggers, resilience, and self-care.
- Employment and Academic Support: Youth engage in resume writing, job interview preparation, time management, and goal-setting exercises, while receiving ongoing academic tutoring and collaboration with schools.
- Community Engagement and Service: Mentees take part in local volunteer projects, cultural events, and recreational outings, reinforcing community connection, social responsibility, and civic pride.
Program Eligibility and Coordination:
Seeds of Generations is an exclusive mentoring program for residents of the Peace of Mind Group Home. Youth must currently reside in the home to be eligible for participation. Referrals are coordinated internally by the Group Home Manager and Program Director, in collaboration with county social workers, therapists, and behavioral health providers.
Program Goals:
- Strengthen each youth’s sense of identity and belonging.
- Provide consistent, male-centered mentorship that models positive relationships and responsible behavior.
- Reduce risk factors associated with trauma, substance abuse, and delinquency.
- Equip participants with the academic, vocational, and emotional skills necessary for long-term success and community reintegration.
The Seeds of Generations Mentoring Program serves as an extension of the nurturing environment of Peace of Mind Group Home, helping youth break generational cycles and plant new “seeds” of hope, discipline, and achievement that will flourish for years to come.
